I liked Underworld better, but think White Noise may have been a more important (and yes perhaps a more influential) book. More of an advanced marker piece of work. His literary prophesy seems more real, more darkly apocalyptic, more resonant today than perhaps even DeLillo could have imagiend back in the mid-80s. David Foster Wallace might be the voice of the 21st Century but I would argue DeLillo gave the end of the 20th Century and the beginning of the 21st its plot.
